In 1986, Dr. Lakshmi Vijayakumar founded Sneha, India’s first volunteer-led crisis helpline, to combat the stigma surrounding suicide. Despite initial skepticism, the organization has since handled over 1.5 million calls, evolving into a comprehensive suicide prevention initiative.
